Nienhiser Picks up Pair of Top-10s in Three Race Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to racing over the weekend, Paul Nienhiser would run with the Sprint Invaders on Friday and Saturday aboard Scott Bonar’s No. 50 machine before closing his weekend out back in the No. 9x entry with the IRA at Angell Park Speedway.

“It was a really great weekend, and I have to thank Scott Bonar for the opportunity,” Nienhiser said. “We had a fast car two nights, and I was able to take a little bit of what we did and apply it to my car on Sunday night and it worked really well so a ton was gained, for sure.”

Friday night at Lee County Speedway, Nienhiser got off to a very nice start as he was able to advance from sixth to finish third in his heat race. Not qualifying for the Dash, the Chapin, IL driver would take the green flag from the night starting spot.

In the opening couple of laps, Nienhiser was able to make some big time moves as he found himself all the way up in third and gaining on the leaders. Taking over second, Nienhiser would close in on Randy Martin only to see the yellow erase the gap and put Nienhiser on Martin’s bumper.

Not quite strong enough to overtake the lead in clean air, Nienhiser would flex his muscle in traffic and get by and take over the race lead. Looking very good in traffic, a caution with just six to go was exactly what Nienhiser did not want to see.

Having his hands full in clean air, Nienhiser would hold the top spot as long as he could before giving the lead up with just three-laps to in the race and settling for second.

Saturday night Nienhiser and Bonar traveled to 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA where Nienhiser would pick up the heat race win on the locked down track before going from sixth to fifth in the Dash.

Lining up sixth in the feature event after the redraw, Nienhiser would have another great car underneath him in the feature event as he could go anywhere he needed to as he quickly jumped up to second.

Gaining on the leader in traffic, a lapped car would jump from the bottom to the top leaving Nienhiser with nowhere to go and there would be contact with Nienhiser doing everything but flip. Though the damage was limited it was enough to bring Nienhiser’s night to an early end.

Traveling to Angell Park Speedway on Sunday night aboard his family owned machine, Nienhiser would take a little bit from what he and Bonar did over the weekend and try it on his car and would be very pleased with how things felt. Timing the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design entry in third quick during time trial, Nienhiser would battle a torsion bar coming out of adjustment and working itself loose but was still able to finish second in the heat.

Drawing the nine-pill in the redraw, a re worked greasy surface would make the start of the feature event very interesting for many drivers. Taking evasive action as a couple of guys got out of shape in front of him, Nienhiser would slip back to nearly dead last in the opening laps as he settled back in.

With the feature going non-stop, Nienhiser would have to make up ground the hard way though he would make it look easy as he rallied back up to take the checkered flag in the seventh position.

“It was frustrating we started the race with the track not quite ready, and in the end it saw us get the short end of the stick,” Nienhiser said. “On the plus side, that was the best my car has felt in a while and it has me really excited for the next couple of weeks.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, JRC Transportation, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.
