Nienhiser Hangs on to Win Queen's Royal

PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Farmington, MO, Paul Nienhiser would do it the hard way, but he would rise to the occasion and pick up his ninth feature event win of the season as he claimed the Queen’s Royal at St. Francois County Raceway.

“Surprisingly I drew well for both my heat and the feature and really put us in a good spot,” Paul Nienhiser joked. “Unfortunately when we fired off for the feature I could tell something was off with our engine but opted to stick it out since we were on the pole and it worked out for us.”

Drawing the pole for his heat race, the Chapin, IL driver took full advantage of his starting position as he raced his way to the win and made himself eligible for the feature event redraw.

Shaking off his luck of drawing seven and eight’s, Nienhiser would pull the one pill and put the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design machine on the front row for the 30-lap feature event on a very slick racing surface.

Pushing out for the feature, Nienhiser would notice something was a miss under the hood of his hot rod, but feeling it down on power and with the track extremely slick he made the decision to roll the dice and stick it out with his prime starting position.

With the engine not up to power, Nienhiser would not get the jump when the race came to life as he settled into second and built him momentum up. Soaring into the lead on the seventh lap, Nienhiser would make do on restarts as caution flags slowed the pace of the race heavily on his night.

A lap 23 caution turned into a fuel stop for the field, and Nienhiser’s crew noticed his right rear was in bad shape, but the Chapin, IL pilot was up to the challenge of babying it for seven laps.

Though it wasn’t an easy task, Nienhiser was able to rise to the occasion as he picked up the victory and watched his right rear go flat while celebrating on the front stretch.

“The odds were definitely stacked against us, but we had a good car, and luckily the track worked in our favor and we weren’t really hampered being down a cylinder,” Nienhiser added.

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, JRC Transportation, Signature Signs and Design, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.
