Paul Nienhiser Roughed Up Late at Route 66

PETERSEN MEDIA: Disappointed that Friday’s All Star event at Jacksonville Speedway succumbed to Mother Nature, Paul Nienhiser turned his attention to Route 66 on Saturday night where he had a great night going until a late incident saw him get upside down.

“It was a bummer getting rained out on Friday night, because it was a race that I was looking forward to,” Paul Nienhiser said. “Heading to Route 66, we were pretty good there a year ago, so I was hoping to match that success on Saturday night, and we did at first.”

Timing in sixth fastest overall in qualifying time trials, Nienhiser lined the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design entry up on the front row of his heat race.

Losing out on the jump, Nienhiser would run in the second position for much of the race but reeled the leader in as the race drew to a close. Getting to traffic on the last lap, Nienhiser nearly stole the win, but settled for second, which still put him in the Dash.

Lining up second in the Dash alongside Kyle Larson, and has the two battled for the top spot, Nienhiser would slip back to second and he would go on to finish in the runner up spot.

Lining up third in the feature event, Nienhiser would find himself in a torrid battle for second that saw four cars running wheel to wheel around the speedway. Getting solidly back into third with just under 10-laps left in the race, contact from a car behind Nienhiser on the final lap of the race would send him flipping, relegating him to a 13th place finish.

“One of those deals where a slider came up extremely short, and I didn’t see it coming until it was too late,” Nienhiser noted. “We will get things put back together and ready to do battle with MOWA on Saturday at FALS.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-19, Wins-6, Top 5’s-9, Top 10’s-11

ON TAP: Nienhiser travels to FALS on Saturday night with MOWA.
