Mechanical Failure Derails Paul Nienhiser at Jacksonville

PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul Nienhiser looked to be well on his way to a win at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday night, but a mechanical failure on the final lap of the race led him to a DNF.

“With Rico Abreu back competing with us on Friday, I knew we had to be really good to win, and we were,” Paul Nienhiser said. “We had an awesome car, and unfortunately broken throttle linkage on the white flag lap cost us a win we really needed as a team.”

Lining up on the pole of his heat, the Chapin, IL driver got his night off to a hot start as he picked up the win aboard the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design backed No. 9x machine.

Moving into the redraw, Nienhiser left fate up to a young fan in one of his shirts and it paid off as the one pill put him on the pole of the feature event.

With the track being up on the fence, Nienhiser went to work and banged the boards to perfection. Setting a very strong pace up front, Nienhiser looked to be well on his way to a victory as he accepted the white flag.

During that final ¼ mile, Nienhiser would experience a mechanical failure that left him with a DNF, and with a bitter taste in his mouth.

Making the decision to head to Beaver Dam on Saturday night to race with IRA as he looked for redemption, Nienhiser timed his entry in seventh quickest in time trials, before finishing fourth in his heat race.

Lining up eighth in the feature event, Nienhiser and his team did some tuning to their entry before the feature event went green. As the race came to life, Nienhiser began working his way through the field until he lost the handle on the 10th lap and spun his machine to a stop.

Able to restart from the tail end of the field, Nienhiser would go to work again. Working his way forward, Nienhiser put together a very nice charge that saw him salvage his night with a sixth place finish.

“I was on the fence about racing Saturday but after that bad luck on Friday night I knew I Just had to get back after it,” Nienhiser said. “Some of the stuff we did Friday didn’t translate over on Saturday and we had to do a little work. Still nice to come away with a good finish after making an early mistake.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
