Nienhiser Scores Thrilling MOWA Victory at Lincoln

The all-time winningest driver in Midwest Open Wheel Association history has added another victory to his career tally.

“It feels great to finally get some much overdue results for the speed we’ve had recently.” Paul Nienhiser said of the Lincoln (IL) Speedway triumph.

The Chapin, IL native kicked the night off in emphatic fashion, taking a dominating win in his heat race, and then drawing the 2nd starting spot for the A Main.

“We started on the pole of the heat race and were way too nice at the start.” Nienhiser said with a laugh. “I let the outside car stay way too close to me and had to ride around in 2nd until i could finally throw a slider and ended up winning it by a straightaway.”

The feature started off with a bang, with Nienhiser sliding the leader for the top spot on lap 1 and a crash happening simultaneously.

“The crash called the initial start back after I’d taken the lead.” Nienhiser stated. “On the second start I had to wait till turn 3 to throw a slider but got the lead and built a solid gap until a yellow on lap 17.”

After the yellow flag period, Nienhiser once again pulled away, but made contact with a lapped car knocking the front wing of the MB Heating & Cooling #9X down and hampering the defending MOWA Champion’s progress.

“The slower cars were racing each other really hard, making it hard to predict which line they’d choose.” Nienhiser explained. “Unfortunately, I made contact with one with just 3 laps to go. I knew 2nd place [Steven Russell] was getting close but I just tried to make my car as wide as possible and managed to hang on for the win.”

The win marked Nienhiser’s 24th career MOWA victory, and his 2nd 410 sprint car triumph of 2023.

“This is some awesome momentum to carry into this weekend with the All Stars.” Nienhiser said of the thrilling win. “Especially being at two of my favorite tracks in the area.”

Looking ahead, Nienhiser will head to 34 Raceway in West Burlington, IA this Friday to pilot the Midland Performance Inc. #50 car with the All Star Circuit of Champions, and then climb back into his own CAM2 Racing #9X on Saturday again with the All Stars at the Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL for the “Rumble by the River.” Both events will have tickets available at the track while also being available on the My Race Pass app. Both nights will be broadcast live on FloRacing.
